Brendan Power is an artist originally from Lucan, Co. Dublin. After studying and working as an Engineering Technician, Brendan returned to college to study fine furniture making at the Letterfrack Institute of Technology in Galway. This led him to specialize in woodcarving and pyrography. Pyrography is the art of burning images into wood. Originally the traditional craft of pyrography was carried out with a hot poker. Nowadays, there are specialized machines which heat up a thin wire allowing the artist to burn continuously for several hours.
Brendan Power and Blacksmith Rob Ireson from the Glen Studios, Kinsale have just recently designed and manufactured a pedal powered pyrography machine which enables the art of pyrography to be achieved outdoors whilst generating the electricity required.
Brendan is currently working out of his studio in Kinsale Co. Cork where he produces work of great diversity ranging from small scale commissions to large scale sculptural installation.
